Clinical Educator Engagement Event: Creating a Successful Learning Environment for the Clinical Educator and the Student

This event was organized by Clinical Faculty Representatives, Rachel Kennedy (SLP) and Li Qi (Audiology), and Clinical Practicum Coordinator, Cheryl McGee.

Three SASS Clinical Faculty members who have experience supervising students answered engaging questions in an interactive format:
1. Jeffrey Rowell, Speech-Language Pathologist
2. Charlotte Douglas, Audiologist
3. Keeley Cotton, Speech-Language Pathologist

The overarching theme of this event was: Creating a Successful Learning Environment for the Clinical Educator and the Student.

Some of the questions addressed by the panel included:
Setting Expectations
1. What strategies do you use to encourage a successful learning environment for the student:
a. Prior to the placement?
b. At the beginning of the placement?
c. During the placement?

Providing Feedback
1. What strategies do you use when providing verbal and written feedback to a student?
2. What strategies do you use to help a student receive constructive feedback and implement that feedback in future sessions?
