Creating a Successful Learning Environment for the Clinical Educator and the Student

SASS Clinical Faculty Representatives, Li Qi (Audiology) and Rachel Kennedy (SLP) and Clinical Practicum Coordinator, Cheryl McGee, are planning more initiatives to support our amazing Clinical Community.

We would like to invite all Audiology and SLP clinicians to a virtual Clinical Educator Engagement event, which will take place on Friday March 3 from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

The format will be as follows:

A panel of experienced Clinical Educators (2 from Audiology and 2 from Speech-Language Pathology) will answer questions about their experiences with mentoring students. The majority of this event will be interactive, where attendees can ask questions about student supervision.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

The overarching theme of this event is: Creating a Successful Learning Environment for the Clinical Educator and the Student. Some of the questions that will be addressed by the panel include:

Setting Expectations

  1. What strategies do you use to encourage a successful learning environment for the student:
    1. Prior to the placement?
    2. At the beginning of the placement?
    3. During the placement?

Providing Feedback

  1. What strategies do you use when providing verbal and written feedback to a student?
  2. What strategies do you use to help a student receive constructive feedback and implement that feedback?

Please RSVP by completing this 1-minute Qualtrics survey by February 24 so we have an approximate idea of how many participants to expect: https://ubc.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bl89hMbtxcMtXZI

The event will be video-recorded for those who are unable to attend and will be uploaded to the Community of Practice website after the event: https://clinicaled.audiospeech.ubc.ca/events/event/
