Clinical Faculty Awards

Congratulations to our two deserving Clinical Faculty Award winners: Julie Lewis and Margret Orme!

Every year, UBC School of Audiology and Speech Sciences (SASS) recognizes members of its clinical faculty who demonstrate excellence in, and commitment to the clinical education of students.

This year, the 2018 Elizabeth MacLeod Award for Excellence in Clinical Education (Speech-Language Pathology) was awarded to Julie Lewis, Interior Health, Salmon Arm. Julie has fostered the learning of students by making them feel safe to receive feedback and try new skills. She has consistently created a supportive environment by individualizing the experience. Julie provides a fine layering in her learning scaffold and constructs this seamlessly around the personal experiences that each student brings to the placement. It is this personal element and individual tailoring of the learning experience that is recognized by her students and the School.

The 2018 Noelle Lamb Award for Excellence in Clinical Education (Audiology) was awarded to Margret Orme of Connect Hearing. Margret’s ability to tailor her guidance to match the learning style of each student, foster confidence and encourage critical thinking, all while caring for her clients is truly worthy of recognition. She consistently receives exceptional student feedback from Audiology and SLP students who speak of her kindness, skill, empathy, and openness. We look forward to her continued influence on UBC students, and future Audiologists in particular.
